No comfort in light

I think this handles the theme really well. You have created a powerful sense of duality which creates emotional "movement" in the viewer.

The bright beautiful day, with the sun creeping into the room speaks of new beginnings and hope. Then, the eye reads along the line of the window to the figure huddled there in the corner, and we realize that window is a barrier, not a portal. The rumpled bed suddenly tells me not that one has lept from bed in excitement, but rather spent the night in painful tossing.

It wasn't until I looked at it in this light that I saw the teddy bear, an excellent detail. A confidant? Perhaps an only friend? I imagine it's damp with tears, or insomniac sweat.

I really like the bright outlines and murky shapes in the room. You have really nailed the light in this piece. The window glows and the darks are really murky without being muddy. Your use of chiaroscuro adds to the overall atmosphere of being unenlightened, left out.
