It's always encouraging to hear of more people using FOSS for art. It is becoming more and more clear that one does not need to pay large license fees for (or, which is more common - pirate) commercial software for most normal uses. With even the occational professional artist moving into using open-source software, it's really gaining some traction.
Don't forget to encourage the actual developers (the people actually creating the software) too if you get the chance - by giving feedback/bug reports etc - that's very motivational for them (they are doing it all as a hobby after all).
