Queen in the morningby *Griatch-art

This is a character from a roleplaying campaign of mine. The title says "queen", but she's actually a sort of dutchess. She has quite some role in the campaign, even though it's not very clear to the players yet.

This was an attempt at getting some more realistic portrait drawing done, including skin texturing. I looked at some references for the light, but otherwise she sort of grew all of herself ... I learned a lot with this image.

All done from scratch in GIMP2.4 using brushes and not much more.

As usual I'm very interested in getting critique on this; it's a new style for me.

EDIT: changed the lighting considerably.

Thanks for the comment Gaeva, the skin and light were the main problems I had with this.
(Hmm, reminds me, I haven't managed to use her yet in the roleplaying campaign I'm running ... should probably do that soon.

very nice. her skin and hair especially is well done. the left eye seems abit off and her lips could use a little more blending. otherwise very good work

I'm always looking for critique so I'll be taking a look at her eye and lips again. Probably won't change anything at this point, but i'll take a look to see what can be changed for next portrait. Thanks for the comment!

Long-time lurker, first time commenter...
This may well be one of your better jobs, if not the best. i especially like the texture and the lighting on the skin - she practically glows. Your grasp of facial anatomy is close to excellent.
Just some minor points I have to notice: The color of the neck might need a bit of adjustment as the green highlight doesn't look correct. The hair could also do with a bit of detail. The shoulder looks a tad too small.
But this is a great picture, overall. Congratulations.

BTW, thanks for the great GIMP tutorials and suggestions...

Thanks for the comments! Critique is always greatly appreciated, as well as the chance of "luring" a long-time lurker to take part.

I have gotten several comments about her hair, but the neck is new, I'll take a look into that. Not sure I agree on the shoulders though, it's a perspective thing. I might do an extra check though, it's so easy to stare oneself blind on one's own works.
